I thought you all might like to know about some of the
people we have met here...
We have met some really great families over here:
The Fedoras: Dave, Dale, David, Sarah, Jael, and Jamin...We
had so much fun with them, playing soccer and volleyball, hiking, sharing
meals, helping them move, the Poland trip, and all kinds of fun stuff...Sarah
and Jael are twins and they came to BERC with Jamin, and their parents taught
some of the classes here. It's so sad to talk about them in the past tense, but
they left the end of June to go back home to NJ after being here for about 2
years
Another family we have spent some time with are the
Holloways, they have a daughter Allison and a son Ben who come to BERC, we went
hiking with them too and we're hoping to spend some more time with them soon!
Pray for their family, they just recently lost someone who was very close to
them!
Then the Cherneys, four of us girls (Beth, Crystal,
Christen, and I) stayed with them for about 3 weeks. They just moved here
a little over 6 months ago. Jim and Sally have 4 absolutely adorable kids, Anna
8, Kayla 6 (we share birthdays ), Emma 5, and Sam 3. They have been so good
to us!!! They fed us so well and provided so many things for us. We’ve
had some really meaningful conversations with Jim and Sally about moving
here since they are still relatively new
to Slovakia.
We've had a BLAST with their kids...it was so much fun to come upstairs for
breakfast every morning and be greeted by 4 smiling faces!
We’ve also met the Hamanns, Allison was coming here to work
on math with Beth this summer. Congrats Allison on doing such a great job!!! J It sounded like you were doing some pretty
intense math, way to finish out the summer strong! I hope we get to see you more this summer
when we can have more fun than doing Algebra!
We’ve hung out with the Meyerdirks (sp.) a few times this
summer too, but some of them are heading out for a few weeks this summer. Maybe we’ll get a chance to hang out again.
The Eades have also been around quite a bit this
summer…Chase and Chad
are pretty busy with sports and camp, but it’s been fun having them
around. Cherry and Don have also give us
some great insights about being here.
Jeanette has also been here at BERC this summer, she’s been
working so hard on math and biology! Can you imagine spending your summer
working on two very difficult subjects? You made it though Jeanette, I’m
seriously so proud of you!!! You didn’t just make it through, you passed with
flying colors! I wish we’d been able to spend more time with you outside of
BERC, but I’m so glad you were able to go with us to the opera and that we got
to hangout at the Collingwood’s with you.
I humbly apologize to anyone I may have excluded, it’s not
because I don’t like you, it’s because I’m really too tired to be writing this
right now
And last, but certainly not least are the Hills-
The family members we have met are Roberta, Jim, Melanie,
Amy, and Steven…
Jim, Amy and Steven (who are also twins) headed back to the
States in June, but we had fun while they were here…you both were wonderful in
the play! And Jim, thanks so much for carting us back and forth in the van and
exposing some of us to John Denver music
Roberta is in charge of our time here and we have been
“working” for her at BERC and with anything that comes up while we’re here,
such as helping the Fedoras move, etc.
We also helped the Hills as they were/are in the process of
moving from their home to apartments much closer to BERC.
I have really enjoyed getting to know Roberta and Melanie
this summer. Our time here hasn’t been
filled with just our tasks…both Mel and Roberta have made certain that we are
able to get out and explore and experience Bratislava
and Slovakia. In fact, just yesterday we visited 2 castles
not too far from here and then we had yummy Slovak food for lunch (which
reminds me I’m hungry and there were left-overs) Mmmmm, halushky (potato pasta), goat cheese
and bacon…I’m going to miss the food here!
There are so many more things that I would like to share
with you, but there’s just not time right now…be sure to take a look at Sentout, our
group site for different perspectives and events that I have forgotten to
mention!
Thanks so much for your prayers!
Dovidenia!
